Biography

Welcome to my website.  I am the creator of JD Access Creative Studio, which is my workspace in Fraser Heights area of Surrey, BC where I do the work that goes with being an artist.  In this space, I have taught many an art class, and painted many series of paintings along with consuming every bit of space with my activities.  The artwork that I’ve done is primarily in acrylics and multi-media formats, which includes artwork series such as Surrey parks, the scenery and wildlife of BC, and places that I’ve travelled. The things that excites me most now, is narrative art using canvas, textile and paint.  I am writing visual stories of life histories of people that I meet.  I think creating legacy for people is hugely important in this day and age, as photos disappear when a phone dies,  people are feeling disconnected from their families because we move around so much, and many other reasons.  Having a mother with Alzheimers and having lost my father at a young age, makes me feel like the stories of my family are becoming more elusive and I want to capture them before they are forgotten.  As I age, I see this an important thing to do for others too, so I’m planning an exhibition this year to share the lives of seniors living in long term care, which will be presented in November 2024.  I will also be running an art narratives project with the Metis Family Services society to create a series of artworks that give them a sense of community and history as they contribute to the artworks.  I also am involved in grant activities to contribute back to the community with meaningful art projects, such as the “Stronger Together” eco art program at a local school, whereby joined up with artist colleague, Melissa Burgher we teach every student in the school multiple art classes, which will culminate in a large tapestry that they will have a had in weaving for the school foyer.  Meaning and purpose in art is what it is all about. I also find meaning by hosting retreats on the Shuswap, which are primarily delivered based upon creativity and wellness.  I love sharing our cabin and waterfront with others to share in creative conversations, empowering each other, and moving forward with our big ideas. This is how I like to live, in the process of sharing and passion through art and creativity.

Check out my Gallery of past and current artworks in the various series.  I’m always open to selling my art, and making more.  My narrative artworks about life stories/journeys art my interests, along with many others.  If you would like a commission done of your family’s legacy, let me know.
